CPR for the Old Hospital
“Community Project Renaissance”
CPR for the OldHospital is a group of volunteers committed to “breathing life” back into the OldHospital.
After years of neglect, broken windows, leaking roofs and environmental hazards, a number of members of the community have stepped forward to say they care about preserving this beautiful building. Almost everyone in the community has a story about a memory of either working in the hospital, visiting someone in the hospital, or giving birth or being born in the hospital. It’s such a beautiful building that holds so many memories, some joyous, some sad…If these walls could talk (hot) This building is a piece of history in Marshall we hope to never forget. Hand in hand people come together to help, putting forth love and effort to save the building.
“Face Lift” Campaign
In keeping with the theme of CPR for the old hospital, we decided it was time to fundraise for our fist surgical procedure… A face lift! We want to building to regain it’s beauty, being a place the community can be proud of and will want to come visit. There are around 40 broken and cracked windows. Much of the wood framing is rotting and in need of repair and painting. The roof, while tarped for now, will need to be replaced in the next 3-5 years. If you would like to donate to the “Face Lift” campaign, you may write a check to our umbrella non profit 21st Century Healing Arts. These can be mailed to our address: PahloArt Center, 868 S Brunswick Ave Ste B101, Marshall, Mo. 65340. For a donation by credit card, you may use pay pal and send it to pahloart@yahoo.com.
If These Walls Could Talk
As Ellie Butterfield strolled through the halls of the OldHospital, she could help but wonder, if these walls could talk, what stories would they tell? She suggested we do an exhibition of stories people have about the hospital. We thought it was such a great idea, we would like to begin working on a permanent exhibit and display stories throughout the walls of the hospital. Do you have a story you would be willing to share about your experience at the old hospital? This project is still in the early planning stages, however, this is the perfect time to put your thoughts to paper. Contact us (hot) and tell us your story. We want to honor the past as we move into the future. Always mindful of the gifts given before us.
The Renovation
Let’s put a number of before and after photos here. We have a bunch more to add….
Helping Hands
The community has joined together with helping hands to help make this project a success. It’s because of the hard work and efforts of these folks who have made the opening of the PahloArt Refinery & Gallery possible. As a tribute to our volunteers, their handprints are placed on our “Helping Hands” display.
Pictures to come
Adopt a Gallery
Artists, groups, clubs adopt an old hospital room, take down the old curtains that separated the patient beds, patch walls, paint, freshen up the room then use the rooms for Gallery space. Our first Gallery rooms will be opening in conjunction with the exhibition “Tribute to the Farmer” Oct. 20. Here’s a sneak preview of the art you will see in the galleries! If you or your club or group are interested in adopting a Gallery Room, contact us. (hot)
Insert pictures and info on Studios.
